A new city!

Truthfully we hadn’t been trying new places or cooking much.  Life had gotten pretty stagnant.  We just moved from Cincinnati to Indianapolis on Monday, so that has changed!  All new places to go and I even made two yelp reviews, which I hadn’t bothered with in forever.

I set up a thingy to send posts from here to our foodluv tumblr, so feel free to check whichever you prefer!  Now to post this to see if it really sends it.

the game has changed

If you follow me on twitter (@Katiberz) you already know we bought a Vita-Mix machine. We made coffee milkshake type things, fresh peanut butter & I made a berry slushie for breakfast this morning. We hope to make a real post about it soon. Also we made the best vegan pizza ever with Daiya shreds! More on that too…

If you were a real person and you registered for the site, I apologize, but I deleted all users except Shawn and I.  I suspect it was all spammers trying to find a way in.

Disney Plans!

We’re going back to Disney World for…drumroll…our HONEYMOON!  Yes, yes, we are finally going to do it, but in the quickest and cheapest way possible.

You may recall our first trip there was January 2009 when we had been vegetarian about 7 or so months.  Shawn was having his first diverticulitis flare up and was in a lot of pain.  This trip we will be vegan about 4 months (by then) and Shawn’s diverticulitis is mostly under control.  So now the food research begins!  If anyone has tips let me know, but for others, let me post a bunch of links that I will be taking notes from soon.

I will try to post here as we find interesting looking options.  If anyone has tips, please comment!

Vegiversary

Either today or yesterday is Shawn & my Vegiversary!  We have been vegetarian for one year.  Huzzah!  I think I we should celebrate some how, but we have to find time.  It’s summer, it’s busy!

One week down

My manager went on a cruise. This past week was the first total week without her. She’s taken vacations before, but this time I have more duties to take some of the load off my coworker. Considering, I didn’t stress out like I have before, but I would get home and be all “bleh”.
I got a new PC with my bonus from work/tax return. It runs really well and I can play Sims 2 again! It’s a refurbished HP from microcenter. I was bummed for a while because it was being really, really noisy and it was looking like I would have to just live with it, but it’s been quiet for a couple days now.
As far as food goes, we’ve been eating out too much this past week. We went to Keystone Grill in Covington with Veggie Option & husband. The food was ok, the smoke got terrible, but the company was great! We’ll have to try again in a non smoking place when we have time to talk longer.

All the Korean banchan I had made for lunches were great, but I didn’t want anymore after eating it for a whole week.  I actually think I am “off” Korean food for a little while.  That’s shocking because I could almost eat that for every meal.  I think I’m afraid I will get sick of it if I have more now.  I still have a container of kimchi in the fridge, I’ll bet it’s good and stinky now.  I did buy a new vegetarian Korean cookbook though, so I’m ready when it next hits me!

I’ve posted a little over at Gameluv lately.  I mean to post more often, but I am busy playing games.  That or I am being flighty between too many games to say anything relevant about any of them.

We’ve been discussing the idea of a podcast.  The problem is, we don’t want to do it the way everyone else seems to.  We’re working out our kinks.

And we're back!

We are back with a fresh install of wordpress.  Bare with us as we try to fix the stuff that got messed up.  I need to import my posts on the other foodluv too.  I’d better get started!

Lots of Food, not much cooking

I haven’t had much to write about in regards to food because we haven’t been properly cooking for a while.  Family meals were very accommodating, even going past my expectations.  New Year’s eve we spent at Shawn’s parent’s house playing Wii sports and eating food.  Shawn’s Mom made an additional batch of her sausage balls using fake sausage!  They tasted the same as last year when we ate the meat variety :)   Day after Christmas we had egg casserole (no meat) and potatoes at Shawn’s sister’s house.  We ate lots of food and I’d guess I gained at least 5 lbs if not more.  Oh well.

It’s six days until our trip to Disney World.  I’ve put in a hold on our mail, bought an automatic pet bowl for Molly and planned as much as I can tolerate.  We don’t have any dining reservations because neither of us what to commit to a particular park each day.  We may regret this, but we’ll learn from whatever happens.  We did get the dining plan added to our tickets, so we don’t have to fret over shelling out so much money for meals while there.  I’m anxious to say the least.  It’s also been almost ten years since I last flew on a plane.

I got the neck pain again from the bed bowing down the center.  Our tempur-pedic mattress is fabulous, but our Ikea bedframe has trouble supporting it (the same way our platform bed before it did).  We have propped up the center beam with a crate and a bunch of phone books, but the top book became crimped, so the bed bowed again.  It’s fixed now using old shelves, but the damage was done on my neck.  I resorted to a chiropractor on 12/29.  He “cracked” neck and back stuff, which initially hurt.  Took x-rays and put me on a machine that made my back muscles spazm.  The next day I ached, but by Friday I felt so much better!  Friday he showed me my x-ray results and my spine is a zig-zag, my neck is inverted as if I had been in a car accident (he said), but I can’t think of anything recent that would have caused that.  I’ll be going a lot for a while to fix all this, which I expect to fix many of the other problems I’ve been having.  My head congestion has improved already after two visits.  Unfortunately it all drained down my throat last night though.

Between this and the dental work I still need done, it’s going to be an expensive year.  Too bad my health insurance doesn’t cover more of it.  It almost makes me regret the Disney trip, but that can’t be helped now, so I shall just relax and have fun!

Disney World planning & food stuff

We’ve decided to get a meal plan for our trip.  Once i did the math it’s not a bad deal.  The more I priced meals, the more I realised we’d be spending.  The plan we are getting will be $40 per person/per day, with us being able to eat in sit down restaurants.  I think I will actually have to PLAN more than I wanted to because I will need to make reservations at restaurants.  Someday soon Shawn and I will sit down and review the vegetarian options and which parks we may want to go to on which days.  The only thing I have already planned is that we will go to The Magic Kingdom the day we arrive because they have evening extra magic hours that day.

I was so excited after we booked the trip, but for the past weeks or so I haven’t been as excited.  I blame this on not feeling 100%.  Today I am thinking my “sicky” feeling may be entirely the weather.  This morning I felt like crap while it was foggy, rainy and grey.  Around lunchtime the sun came out and the weather cleared up and I actually feel a bit better.  hmmm

We went to Kim’s Korean last week with one of our restaurant.com coupons and had soups that made me feel better.  They told us that they are getting many more vegetarians lately and they are going to expand the menu to feature a vegetarian section!  I couldn’t help, but wonder whether or not my raving about their food and vegetarian-friendliness around the internet helped that? *ponder ponder*  I keep meaning to tell them about how I tell everyone online about them, but can’t think of how to mention it.

I’m trying to think of what recipes we’ve made at home, but I can’t think of anything new.  We made a vindaloo in the slow cooker I have made before and I honestly cannot remember past that.  I really haven’t been feeling well.

Well that’s all for today, sorry for not updating more often!

A Hand and PC Update

I don’t think my hands will ever be strong enough to channel lightning and send brainless clone soldiers flying, but they may be on the up-and-up. I went to an Orthopaedic Consultant yesterday and he believes the return in pain and numbness in my left hand is due to a new problem, not the stuff that’s been bugging me for years.

According to his brief diagnosis my hand isn’t sticking to the restful position it needs to be in when I’m asleep and it’s not letting the nerves (particularly the carpal tunnel area) relax before I force them into action for another day. I believe it too. I’ve developed a subconscious sleeping position that resembles a dead bug; all curled up with limbs rigidly folded in on myself. I don’t know why or how that became comfortable but after visiting this guy a year ago I managed to force myself to at least sleep with my arms outstretched.

Now it’s time for another round of psychological reinforcement and a new hand brace. I struggled through the first night with it on and things feel better already. Still weak and a bit painful but much better. Today, before work, I’m totally going to play a game. This’ll be the first time in almost two weeks that I’ll sit down, intent on playing a game without worrying (too much) about my hands. If that hand brace is helping it’ll definitely have some work to do tonight!

On the Luv posting front, my PC is being horribly loud with this new power supply and I have yet to go find some way to quiet it down. I’m using the laptop right now and every day I consider ditching my PC altogether. If this laptop weren’t rescued from the grave by my tinkering Father, had a better screen, and a bigger hard drive I’d be posting my PC on craigslist right now. Hopefully in another week I’ll be back up to speed. For now I’d like to thank Maxx and Shang Xiang for keeping things going on GameLuv and FoodLuv.
